Bad Bunny Emmy Win Sets New Super Bowl Record with Seven Awards

Bad Bunny Emmy win

The Bad Bunny Emmy win at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys was total. His Super Bowl LX Halftime Show swept all seven of the categories it was nominated in, making it the most-decorated nominee of the night and setting a new record for Emmy wins by a Super Bowl halftime performance.

The performance, tied to his Debí Tirar Más Fotos era, claimed the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), becoming only the third halftime show ever to take that category. Beyond the headline award, it also picked up Emmys for music direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, technical direction/camerawork and directing.

Bad Bunny Emmy Win Breaks Records Set by Kendrick Lamar

Until Saturday night, the record for most Emmys won by a Super Bowl halftime performance belonged to Kendrick Lamar’s show at Super Bowl LIX in 2025. That performance has now been surpassed by Bad Bunny’s seven-award sweep. Jay-Z, who served as an executive producer on the Bad Bunny halftime show, had previously won for his work on the Lamar performance, and now adds further Emmy wins to his name from the LX show.

There is also a technical footnote worth clocking: the episode of Saturday Night Live that Bad Bunny hosted last season won the Emmy for Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programme. That award won’t go to Bad Bunny himself, but it means his name is attached to an eighth winning production across this cycle.

Sabrina Carpenter, Billy Joel and 50 Cent Among Other Winners

The Creative Arts Emmys spread the recognition across a range of productions beyond Bad Bunny’s record-breaking haul. Sabrina Carpenter claimed her first Emmy as both a performer and executive producer on The Muppet Show, which won Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). In doing so, it beat out Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour | The Final Show for the category.

The Billy Joel HBO miniseries And So It Goes took home the award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Programme. Meanwhile, 50 Cent’s documentary about Sean Combs, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Programme, adding another layer to what has been a very public legal and cultural story.

The breadth of winners across the night reflects the range of projects that sit under the Creative Arts Emmys umbrella, from live stadium spectacle to intimate documentary to long-form music television. But the Bad Bunny Emmy win dominated the conversation, and understandably so: a seven-from-seven sweep at any awards ceremony is a clean result by any measure.

What the Seven-Award Sweep Means for the Halftime Show Format

Super Bowl halftime shows have not always been treated as serious Emmy contenders. The fact that Bad Bunny’s performance now holds the record, and that it did so by winning in categories spanning every major technical and creative discipline, says something about how the format has evolved. Music direction, choreography, lighting design and directing are not consolation prizes. Winning across all of them in a single night is a different kind of statement than a single headline award.

For Jay-Z, whose production fingerprints are now on back-to-back record-breaking halftime shows at the Television Academy‘s Creative Arts Emmys, the sweep adds to what is already a substantial awards footprint across both music and television.

The full picture of Saturday’s ceremony, including Pitchfork‘s original review of the halftime show itself, is worth revisiting. Rolling Stone and others have tracked Bad Bunny’s run across formats closely, and the Emmy haul represents the clearest institutional recognition yet of a performance that was already being talked about as one of the more ambitious halftime productions in recent memory.
