The Purina Institute Global Summit 2025 will feature presentations from 20 global thought leaders exploring the future of pet nutrition and veterinary care.

The Purina Institute has announced the Purina Institute Global Summit 2025, a major international event set to explore the future of pet nutrition and veterinary medicine. Scheduled to take place from 30 April to 1 May 2025, the summit will bring together 20 leading experts to discuss the role of emerging technologies in advancing companion animal care.

Titled Technologically Empowered Veterinary Care, the free, product-neutral event will be livestreamed via the Purina Institute’s online platform. Its focus will be on how veterinary professionals can integrate cutting-edge tools to deliver increasingly personalised care for pets.

Advancing Veterinary Science Through Technology

The summit will examine a range of topics at the forefront of veterinary science, with discussions on:

  • The use of informatics, big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to enhance pet nutrition and health.
  • The role of omics and biomarkers in monitoring and improving animal wellbeing.
  • The impact of connected tools and digital services in diagnosing and managing pet health conditions.

Veterinary professionals attending the summit will have the opportunity to engage with global thought leaders as they explore new possibilities for improving pet health.

World-Leading Experts to Share Insights

The event will feature presentations from leading scientists and researchers, including:

  • Dr Matthew Lungren, Chief Scientific Officer at Microsoft Health and Life Sciences, who leads research into integrating AI with healthcare. He is also an adjunct professor at Stanford University.
  • Dr Daniel Promislow, a senior scientist at Tufts University and co-founder of the Dog Aging Project, which examines the genetic and environmental factors influencing canine longevity.
  • Dr Jessica Quimby, professor and vice chair of research at The Ohio State University, recognised for her pioneering work in treating chronic kidney disease in cats.
  • Dr Michael Snyder, Director of the Centre for Genomics and Personalised Medicine at Stanford University, whose research explores how genetic variation influences health and disease.

Dr Natalia Wagemans, Global Head of the Purina Institute, highlighted the summit’s importance in shaping the future of pet care.

“The rapid expansion of technology presents exciting opportunities to improve pet nutrition and veterinary medicine, but also brings challenges,” she said. “Our goal at the Purina Institute is to foster collaboration and innovation that will drive the future of pet health. The summit will bring together some of the brightest minds in the field, offering valuable insights for veterinary professionals looking to stay at the forefront of innovation.”

A Long-Standing Commitment to Pet Nutrition

Now in its 26th year, the Purina Institute Global Summit—previously known as the Companion Animal Nutrition (CAN) Summit and the Purina Nutrition Forum—continues to serve as a key event for professionals dedicated to improving pet health through nutrition and science.

Registration for the event is now open, with attendees able to earn continuing education credits in jurisdictions that accept RACE. For those unable to attend live, the full programme will be available on demand.
