Soul Glo’s new album, Na I’m Gon Grab Allat, is confirmed for release on 15 January via Epitaph, marking the Philadelphia hardcore band’s first full-length since Diaspora Problems in 2022. It arrives with a guest list that includes MIKE, Bbymutha, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, and Eugene Robinson, among others.
Soul Glo New Album: What to Expect
The record was tracked entirely at Foto Club in the band’s home city, with longtime collaborator Evan Bernard behind the boards. Vocalist Pierce Jordan has dedicated the album, in a press statement, to ‘everyone who has known the joy and pain of loving a man. All different types of love: platonic, romantic, familial, self.’
The tracklist gives that dedication some weight. Four separate songs carry the title ‘Resentment’, each with its own subtitle: ‘Back In Therapy’, ‘Kiss My Ass’, ‘My Friends Over Me’, and ‘Head Tattoos’. If the joy half of Jordan’s equation is somewhere in the fourteen tracks, the pain is not going quietly.
To open the campaign, the band have shared ‘February Theory’, a collaboration with Mannequin Pussy. The accompanying video, directed by Robert Silverstein, features a bar fight over a hot dog, a rowdy church funeral, and at least one moment of literal can-kicking. It is exactly as chaotic as it sounds, and it fits.
From Coachella to Tiny Desk: The Road to the Soul Glo New Album
The gap between Diaspora Problems and this new record has not been quiet exactly, but Soul Glo have been deliberate about what they put out. They co-headlined a tour with Zulu, played Coachella, and became the first hardcore band to perform an NPR Tiny Desk Concert, a moment that landed hard in the wider conversation about where hardcore sits in the broader culture right now. They also dropped a cover of System of a Down’s ‘Soil’ in 2023, and followed it with ‘If I Speak (Shut the Fuck Up)’ in 2024.
It adds up to a band that has been expanding its reach steadily without compromising the intensity that made Diaspora Problems such a jolt. That record was ranked at number 69 in Pitchfork’s 100 Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, a measure of how seriously it was taken outside hardcore circles.
Tour Dates and Where to Get It
The album announcement comes ahead of an imminent run of live dates. Next week, Soul Glo head out on tour with Chat Pile, with Prize Horse and Shallowater joining the bill on select dates. Given the energy ‘February Theory’ sets up, these shows are going to be a lot.
