The eagerly anticipated sequel to the best-selling novel It’s Always Sunny in Wrexham will be released this Sunday, 1 December, amid growing Hollywood interest. Written by lawyer-turned-author Andrew Foley Jones, the first book garnered thousands of fans, dominating Amazon’s football and sports charts, and climbing to number four in the humour category. The novel’s success has led to significant attention from screenwriters and production companies, who are considering adapting the story for both TV and film.

Jones, who hails from Prestatyn and is a director at Mackenzie Jones Solicitors, said the response to his debut novel had exceeded all expectations. “The reaction was incredible, beyond anything I expected,” he said. “We’re now in talks with UK and US producers, and there are discussions about a podcast and audiobook. It feels surreal, especially with the rise of Wrexham AFC as a global football force, with international fans coming to meet me for autographs and photos.”

The first book told the story of a fanatical Wrexham supporter who, after waking from a 10-year coma, discovers that the club is now under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. It captured the global attention surrounding the club’s dramatic rise, with well-known local figures, former players, and international celebrities such as Hugh Jackman making appearances in the plot.

Due to the immense success of the original novel, a sequel is set to build upon its predecessor’s unique narrative, and early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. In It’s Always Sunny in Wrexham – The Sequel, the protagonist continues to navigate the bizarre world he’s woken up to. Now living in a Wrexham that has become a bustling metropolis and global brand, the fan is adjusting to life in the Premier League while rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Gordon Ramsay, Elon Musk, and Donald Trump. The sequel promises to keep the zaniness and humour of the first book, with even more outlandish twists, including an alien invasion, wars, and environmental disasters.

“There are plenty of surprises in store,” said Jones. “The protagonist is struggling to adapt to the huge societal changes, and things get even wilder when a villain appears, determined to derail the fairytale success of Wrexham AFC. The book ends on a cliffhanger, so I’ve already started writing the third novel.”

The surreal nature of the sequel includes a host of well-known figures. Wrexham now has a skyscraper skyline, while famous personalities, from Madonna to ALF the Alien, are part of the unpredictable narrative. Even the likes of Elon Musk and Donald Trump are shown trying to replicate Wrexham’s success in local football teams. The sequel is set to appeal to fans of the original novel, along with new readers who enjoy absurd and thrilling adventures.

Jones added that there are already discussions about adapting both the first and second books into a television series. With the growing buzz around the Wrexham AFC phenomenon, it seems this quirky, humorous, and at times bizarre saga is only just getting started. The sequel is due for release both online and in print this Sunday, offering fans another chance to experience the madcap world of Wrexham AFC.
