Yazmin Lacey the London-born Nottingham-based vocalist placed her debut EP ‘Black Moon’ on Bandcamp as a digital memento more than part of some over-arching plan. “I just thought..let’s put it out! Put it on the internet! We just left it there…and then people picked up on it.” And people did pick up on it. Now touring across Europe playing shows as far flung as New York and São Paulo– she released the ‘When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees’ on influential label First Word Records back in 2018 and has more music coming soon .Soulful but with jazz inflections her music is a heady brew of vintage R&B with reggae broken beat and so much more. Moving from the velvet touch of Erykah Badu and D’Angelo to the vintage approach of Aretha Franklin and Minnie Ripperton to the club ready sounds of Soul II Soul. She’s appeared in session for 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova from Maida Vale been covered extensively in The Observer New Review’s summation of UK jazz and taken the cover of The Move magazine. Yazmin marries this vivid acclaim to her warm unpretentious nature to become one of the foremost vocalists emerging from the UK’s jazz-soul hub.
