Marvin has been a recording engineer at BBC Radio for the last 34 years. He is based in the Classical Team but is lucky enough to have worked across a whole spectrum of music, from opera to obscure electronica and all the bits in between.
He specialises in capturing large scale productions both live on location or in the studio, but is equally at home with a string quartet or jazz trio.
A bass player for most of his life and string player, he knows how important and challenging it can be to capture a great string sound.
From stereo pairs in the best spaces to multimic/ string bugs and battles with grumpy PA and monitor engineers, Marvin discusses The Art of Recording Strings.
