Stephen Taverner began his music career as part of the burgeoning, mid-eighties, indie music scene at Rough Trade Distribution in Kings Cross, London. It was here, whilst running the in-house radio promotions dept, that he got to work on many seminal acts from the US and UK indie music community. After leaving Rough Trade in 1990 he did a short stint as an A&R scout for Big Cat Records/Bedlam Management, where he found and brought in both Pavement and Mercury Rev. After leaving Big Cat Records/Bedlam Management he founded his own management company and signed his first act, Irish rockers, Ash. After many years of working solo on pretty much one band, Taverner expanded the roster to include The Ting Tings, then alt-J and more recently, Wolf Alice. Today, Taverner personally manages alt-J, Wolf Alice and the classical pianist, RIOPY. The management company has grown to include five young managers (with their own rosters), based in London, New York and Paris. Plans are afoot to open an LA office which will house more managers and also an in-house radio/streaming promotions dept.
