    About Olivia

At its heart, 22-year-old Olivia Nelson’s modern era R&B is an exercise in telling stories. Recording her first demo at 16, Olivia’s teen years were spent immersing herself in the music of her peers, singing hooks for London rap collective XXVI in exchange for free studio time. After meeting her mentor and manager at 18, she began creating a body of work that will be shared over the coming months, beginning with the ‘For You’ EP. The EP recalls the end of a significant relationship in her life and through love songs, stories of heartbreak and cautionary tales, Olivia finds an outlet for her emotion. Each track on Olivia’s debut shines a light on a different facet of a tumultuous relationship. On electronic ballad ‘For You’, Olivia describes making personal sacrifices for someone who doesn’t reciprocate. ‘Smother Me’ talks about the peak of a relationship, the hype and infatuation. At the midpoint of the EP with ‘Pouring’, she describes coming to terms with changes in a relationship. The latter half of the EP tells of coming to terms with change and self-sufficiency, with closer ‘Crybaby’ seeing Olivia find a resolution. “It was about knowing that this person was a special part of my life and honouring that, but knowing that sometimes it’s a good thing when things end.”
