Jonathan Dickins founded and presides as the CEO of September Management. He began his career in the music industry at the age of nineteen as an A&R scout. In 2001 after a nearly decade-long tenure as an A&R manager at Warner Music Group, Dickins started his own record label Showbiz Recordings.
The labels first release “Daydream in Blue” by I Monster reached number 20 on the UK Official Singles Chart. This was quickly followed by Panjabi MC’s single “Mundian To Bach Ke”— which became the first ever Punjabi language hit record when it reached the top 5 in the UK, and later spawned a guest vocal from Jay Z.
In 2003, the label released British Grammy-nominated recording artist M.I.A.’s debut single “Galang,” after which Maya Arulpragasam asked him to manage her career and thus starting Jonathan’s journey into artist management. Under Dickins’s management, M.I.A was signed to XL Recordings and released her debut album Arular to immense critical acclaim.
In 2006, having just started September Management, Dickins met British singer Adele. Under the company’s guidance, Adele’s success has been an unprecedented global phenomenon. Through her releases ‘19’, ‘21’, and ‘25’, she has sold over 65 million albums worldwide and has won a multitude of awards including an Oscar, Golden Globe ,3 Ivor Novellos ,9 Brit Awards and 15 Grammys including being the only artist in Grammy history to win The Big Three -Album of the Year, Record of The Year and Song of The Year with two consecutive albums ( 21 and 25). In 2016, Dickins and his team executed a 123 date sold out world tour of arenas and stadiums breaking a number of venue attendance records in the process.
The success with Adele has led him to work with her collaborators, Grammy Award winning producers Paul Epworth and Rick Rubin. Paul Epworth has worked with internationally renowned artists such as Florence & The Machine, U2, Lorde, Coldplay, Rihanna, and Paul McCartney, while Rick Rubin has worked with the likes of Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, The Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Public Enemy, Lana Del Rey, and Ed Sheeran.
Since its inception, September Management’s roster has grown to also include 15 x Grammy Award winning mix engineer Tom Elmhirst, who has worked alongside David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean, U2, Bruce Springsteen and Adele. Artists managed by the company include Platinum selling trio and Ivor Novello winning London Grammar, Brit Award and Mercury Music Prize nominee Jamie T, the critically acclaimed King Krule, fast rising newcomer Rex Orange County and XL Recordings label founder and Mercury Music Prize Nominee Richard Russell. September Management has offices in London, New York, and Los Angeles.
In 2012, Jonathan was awarded the “Manager of the Year” at the Music Week Awards . In 2016 Dickins was honoured as “Manager of The Year” at the Artist and Manager Awards and September Management received The David Enthoven Award for ‘Management Company of The Year’ at the Music Business Worldwide A&R Awards.
