Jon McIldowie started his career booking gigs in his home town of Birmingham before moving to London in 2001 to become the promoter at The Barfly in Camden. In 2006 he became the co-founder of The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
Jon worked for MAMA for twelve years, booking venues, tours and increasingly festivals, including Lovebox, Wilderness, and The Great Escape.
He joined Festival Republic in 2012 where he now resides over talent booking for the companies’ Reading and Leeds festivals, which take place on what is one of the most important weekends in the UK’s festival calendar. Jon’s move to Festival Republic saw him stand down as Director of The Great Escape. His booking of Reading/Leeds involves putting together a huge line-up, featuring the biggest names in contemporary music and blending them with up and coming stars from a variety of genres. In 2013, Jon’s first year at the helm of Reading & Leeds booking, the festivals introduced two new stages: the BBC Radio 1xtra Stage, which showcased the best in grime and hip hop, along with the BBC Radio 1 Dance stage.
In 2015, Jon became the curator and promoter of the newly founded Community Festival, which takes place in Finsbury Park, London.
