Jo Charrington, co-president of Capitol Records UK, began her career at London Records in 1992 as a marketing assistant. Following stints at Virgin Records International Department and BMG, she put together and managed the RnB boyband Another Level. She joined up with Simon Fuller before moving to Epic with Nick Raphael in 2001.
Following 10 years at Sony, she and Nick moved to Universal in 2011. At Capitol Records UK, she has achieved massive global success in signing Grammy, BRIT, Oscar and Golden Globe winner Sam Smith (20M+ album sales), 5 Seconds Of Summer (the only band in history to have their first 3 albums go to #1 in the US) and Liam Payne (whose debut single is the bestselling solo single from any One Direction member).
Jo & Nick have received the Music Week A&R award twice (2010, 2015) making them the only people to receive it twice in its 43-year history. In 2015, Charrington was named Business Woman of the Year at the Music Week’s Women in Music awards.
Charrington has signed and/or A&R’d artists who have had 22 UK #1s singles, 12 UK #1 albums, 4 US #1 albums and sold over 100M albums.
