Helen grew up in Hull and went to University in Bristol where she studied Drama and then Medieval Studies for a Masters degree. She started her career in News, working at BBC 5 Live; The Today Programme on BBC Radio 4 and then Newsbeat at BBC Radio 1; before making the jump to music programming. At BBC World Service she made music documentaries on a wide range of subjects as well as producing weekly music shows, before moving back to BBC Radio 4 to produce Front Row. Then in 2003 she started at BBC Radio 2 as a producer for Johnnie Walker on Drivetime. Highlights of her time at the station include launching the Chris Evans Drivetime Show in 2006 and Breakfast Show in 2010; creating and developing 500 Words - the world’s largest short story writing competition for children; broadcasting live from the heart of the Olympic Park every single day during London 2012; and overseeing Radio 2’s first foray to Ibiza this Summer.   Helen is now Head of Content Commissioning for Radio 2, responsible for developing and implementing the strategic direction of the network, commissioning and the day to day running of the station.
